NEW DELHI — In a major social welfare rollout, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, officially launched the flagship Delhi Lakshmi Yojana at Talkatora Stadium. The initiative delivers a promised financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month directly to eligible women across the national capital.

Symbolically handing over initial approval letters to beneficiaries at the launch event, CM Rekha Gupta framed the scheme as a “Rakhi gift” to Delhi’s women, fulfilling a key electoral pledge aimed at boosting financial independence and household savings.

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Demographics: Female, aged 21 to 60 years, and the eldest female member of the household.
  • Income & Residency: Annual family income must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh, with at least 10 years of Delhi residency (verified via Delhi Voter ID).
  • Power Consumption: Annual household electricity usage during the last 12 months must be under 2,400 units.
  • Key Exclusions: Families with income-tax payees, GST filers, government/PSU employees, four-wheeler owners, or existing government pension recipients are ineligible. Women with more than three children or any criminal record are also excluded.

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Dual Payout System

To encourage both immediate utility and long-term financial security, the Delhi government structured the payout into two distinct choices:

  1. Option A (Split Model): ₹1,000 credited to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) digital wallet for monthly spending, plus ₹1,500 deposited into a locked Fixed Deposit (FD) or Recurring Deposit (RD).
  2. Option B (Savings Model): The full ₹2,500 deposited directly into an FD/RD account.
