The initiative seeks to eliminate financial barriers that often prevent young women from continuing their studies after school. By providing direct monetary support, the government aims to create opportunities for girls to achieve academic success and build independent futures.

• Additional Perks: The assistance is provided in addition to other scholarships or benefits, making it highly inclusive.

This Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) helps cover educational expenses like books, transportation, food, and other costs, reducing dropout rates due to financial constraints.

Eligibility Criteria

• Girl students who studied from Class 6 to Class 12 in Government or Government-aided schools in Tamil Nadu.
• Students pursuing higher education in recognized colleges, universities, polytechnics, or ITIs.
• The scheme covers any number of girls from the same family.
• Girls who studied Classes 6-8 under the Right to Education (RTE) quota in private schools and completed Classes 9-12 in government schools are also eligible.

Note: The scheme primarily targets girls from economically weaker backgrounds studying in state-run schools.

Applications are generally processed through schools and colleges via the official Penkalvi portal or the Social Welfare Department portal. Students need to submit necessary documents such as:

• Aadhaar card
• School/college ID and mark sheets
• Bank account details (linked with Aadhaar)
